San Francisco: Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop

Chrissy Field is a great place to people watch.  We got to observe kids flying kites, dogs with stumpy legs sinking into the sand, and windsurfers bravely setting off into the bay...and miraculously enough, making it back too.

Eventually, we found enough energy to get up from our perch and make the long, though rather scenic, trek to Ghirardelli Square:

After nabbing some free chocolate samples, we got in line for the ice cream and chocolate shop.  The line itself wasn't too bad.  It's after you place your order and you're sent off to find your own table that things really get rough.

The only way to get a table is to pick one where the people look like they're about to leave soon and hover over them like your life depends on it:

Thanks to AF, we somehow were able to grab a table right next to fountain #2:

We thought that meant that we would get our ice cream faster, since the servers could see our number from the counter.

We thought wrong.  Our hot fudge sundae with bananas (otherwise known as the Domingo) still came melty:

Sadness.

Anyway, I've learned my lesson.  Avoid Ghirardelli during the summer months.  Waaaay too many people.  Good ice cream though.  And excellent fudge.
