San Francisco: Absinthe Brasserie & Bar

Sunday morning, NB and I took a nice, leisurely walk to Absinthe Brasserie & Bar for brunch:

I wasn't prepared to give up on the Absinthe family after our less than impressive meal at Boxing Room the night before.

All the tables inside were filled:

So to avoid the wait, we asked for a table outside, despite the slight mist in the air.

NB and I were on the same page in regards to sharing food.  We wanted to try both something sweet and something savory.

To satisfy our sweet tooth, we split the brioche french toast, which came with roasted strawberry-rhubarb compote, whipped mascarpone, and almond-maple syrup:

The french toast was perfectly fluffy and while the sourness of the compote was a bit much at first, it slowly grew on me.

To balance out the sweet, we ordered the duck confit ragout:

The duck sat on the crispiest little chive-potato cake and was topped by a poached egg and creamy bearnaise sauce.  I cried a little inside when I broke the yolk.  But it was worth it, oh yea, it was worth it.  The entire dish was just ridiculously delicious.

To make up for the nasty potatoes we had the day before, we felt like we had an obligation to add a side of brunch potatoes:

The rosemary added a fragrant touch, while the onion jam was deliciously sweet.  Sooooo much better than what we had at Ella's.  A different kind of potatoes than that of La Note, so I'm spared from comparing the two.

There's no better way of starting off the day right than with a great brunch.  Absinthe really does deliver, so get your butts over there!
