Korea: Korean Folk Village
On my second day in Suwon, we went to the Korean Folk Village:
We wandered through traditional style buildings, watched a Korean wedding ceremony, and then hightailed it out of there to beat the Korean elementary school children and Japanese middle schoolers to the food court for lunch:
We shouldn't have worried. The kids never showed up. They packed their own lunches. (Ahh, brings back memories of field trips and Lunchables...)
There was a booth where you place your order. After you get our receipts, you take them to the appropriate stations, then wait for your food to be prepared.
CK and I split a potato pancake:
And a bibimbap:
Food was meh (especially the soggy pancake), but the kiddie amusement park located in the folk village was legit. Despite the hordes of children on field trips, the rides were surprisingly empty. I did have to battle a few little kids for the black horse on the carousel, but I won so no hard feelings.
Check out the Korean Folk Village if you're ever in Suwon and you have time to kill. Otherwise, skip it altogether. There are other less artificial ways of experiencing traditional Korea.
