New York: Sweet Moment

We weren't ready to go our separate ways after dinner at Peter Luger, so what do we do?  We find a dessert place.  Sweet Moment was on our list, so there we went:

The interior was cute and spacious.  Most importantly, if felt like a place we could hang out in:

Of course we couldn't just sit there without buying anything.  So even though we had dessert already at Peter Luger, we got dessert again:

We got the sweet potato bingsoo ($16 for a large).  It came topped with a mound of purple sweet potato, mochi, taro sauce, sweet potato chips, and white chocolate curls.  Definitely an interesting combo.

What prompted us to add Sweet Moment to our NY list was actually this:

I saw the milk tea lattes ($5) on Instagram and just thought they were the cutest thing ever.  The person who took our order made it very clear that these were not real lattes, but instead were just cold milk teas (or cold brew coffees) with flavored cream art on top.  That sounded alright to me, so I ordered a milk tea with Thai tea flavored cream.  Other cream options included matcha, taro, red velvet, and chocolate.

I was tempted to order more (my natural tendency is to collect things), but thank goodness I didn't because it was basically undrinkable.  The cream was fine, but the milk tea itself was watery and slightly bitter and just not good.  I still drank it all because I paid five bucks for it.

Five bucks for the art.  Sigh.  The things we do for Instagram.
