New York: Jacob's Pickles
The reality of the limitations of our bodies hit my sister and me really hard our last full day in New York. After breakfast at Kopitiam and post-breakfast dessert at Supermoon Bakehouse, followed closely by brunch at Shu Jiao Fu Zhou, we decided to head back to the apartment for a mini break...only to crash and knock out for a few hours.
So much for a mini break.
We obviously didn't learn our lesson, however, because upon waking and re-establishing contact with our friends, we proceeded to hit up Magnolia Bakery, Shake Shack, and Gray's Papaya in quick succession before meeting up with VK for dinner at Jacob's Pickles:
The interior was warm and cozy, designed for diners to sit and relax and just have a good time:
Everything on the menu sounded amazing. Too bad we weren't hungry AT ALL.
Though that didn't stop us from over-ordering once again. For the three of us, we got the poutine ($15), which was fries smothered in brown gravy, cheese, and hollandaise drizzle:
When the mountain of fries arrived, we knew we'd made a mistake.
Because we'd also ordered the midnight mac and cheese ($16):
It came loaded with sweet sausage and jalapenos and was topped with a sunny side egg.
As if that wasn't enough, we also got an order of honey chicken and pickles ($17):
How can you go to Jacob's Pickles and not have fried chicken or pickles? Am I right? It was accompanied by a buttery biscuit and a side of grits.
To make the meal a bit "healthier," we tacked on a side of asparagus:
Needless to say, we barely made a dent in any of it.
Except the asparagus. We finished that.
Everything was pretty damn delicious at Jacob's Pickles. I only wish we'd had the stomach space to truly appreciate it.
