South Bay: Stan's Donut Shop
I am very much ashamed to admit that I'd never even heard of Stan's Donut Shop until this year. I mean, I've heard of the Stan's Donuts that originated in LA (I even tried it in Chicago), but I had no clue that the South Bay had its very own Stan's.
Thank goodness for Abby, who always has her listening ears on for whispers of good food.
We had Martin Luther King's Day off, so we took the opportunity to check out Stan's after lunch:
We arrived at 2:00pm, a bit before the shop closed at 3:00, and we were super nervous because apparently Stan's usually has a line before they open at 6:00am and they often sell out.
Sure enough, when we walked through the door, we immediately noticed that there were only glazed donuts left. And not that many of them either

The glazed were $1 each to take home and $10.50 for a dozen, so of course we had to get a dozen (in case you're the type to count donuts, there are only ten in the photo because we set two aside to drop off at T's workplace nearby):
They might seem a bit boring, being plain ol' glazed donuts and all, but they turned out to be the softest, fluffiest donuts I've ever had. And because they're not as sweet as say a chocolate glazed or a maple, you find yourself reaching for another...and another. It's that good.
Abby went back a few days later to get donuts for her coworkers, this time early enough to also get an assortment of flavors. Being the good sister that she is, she also got a box to bring home:
Again all the donuts were $1 each and $10.50 for a dozen.
We sat down with CK and my cousin and methodically cut each donut into sample bite sizes. We then tried them one at a time and shared our feelings after each one. What? Isn't that what everyone does when you get a box of donuts?
While the other donuts were good, we all agreed that the best one was still the glazed yeast donut. I almost wish Abby had gotten a dozen of just the glazed.
I am officially a fan of Stan's. Forget about gourmet donuts. Stan's simple glazed donut easily blows all those fancy donut shops out of the water. Definitely check them out if you're in need of some donuts.
And if you wake up early enough.
