New York: TabeTomo
On Valentine's Day, Alaska Airlines had a BOGO sale for flights to the East Coast. Without even checking with my boss, I gave Abby the go ahead to book tickets for us to New York in March. I mean, $126 for two tickets round trip? How could we possibly pass on that?
That's right, we couldn't. So to New York we went!
Through some sleuthing, T and CV managed to figure out which flight we'd booked and joined us on our NY food adventure. We landed in the Big Apple, dropped off our luggage, and immediately went to meet AF at TabeTomo for dinner.
The restaurant was so packed that we had to wait outside in the cold:
The five of us were alright with sitting at the counter, so we didn't have to wait too, too long to be seated:
Tabetomo is known for its tsukemen or dipping ramen, so that's what we all ordered:
The tonkotsu tsukemen ($14) consisted of these lovely, chewy noodles and a rich pork broth on the side with a slice of chashu and veggies inside.
I added an egg for $2:
By far the most fun part was the hot stone you can add for free to reheat your broth:
We must have been starving because Abby and I killed our noodles. While clearing away our bowls, one staff person commented, "Wow, you guys finished it! Our portion sizes aren't small."
Whoops.
I loved everything about TabeTomo, from the laid back ambiance to the stellar menu. I mean, scroll back up and look at that egg! And those perfect noodles! Yes, the broth is a bit salty and fatty, but it's purposely like that because you're supposed to dip the noodles in it and not drink it like soup.
A big thank you to AF for introducing us to the place. It certainly started off our NY trip with a bang!
