San Diego: Tajima Ramen

The problem with my group of friends is that we're all enablers.  (Feeling stuffed, but should we eat again?  Sure, why not?  Can't eat another bite?  Just keep chewing!)  Which explains how we ended up at Tajima Ramen our first night in San Diego:

We weren't hungry at all, but we convinced each other that we should eat something to make the most of our trip.  Good thing there was a wait at the restaurant.  This allowed us some precious time to digest and make room.

By the time we were seated, we were still full, but no longer painfully so:

Another problem with my friend group is that when we travel, we're incapable of ordering in accordance to our actual stomach capacity.  Too much FOMO, maybe?  Our eyes are always much bigger than our stomachs.

We could've just ordered mains, but of course we couldn't resist getting some appetizers.  We tried ordering the squid karaage ($12), but what arrived on the table was a far cry from what we imagined:

We were expecting tentacles and light, crisp breading, not these mediocre calamari rings.  When we checked the bill later, we saw that it wasn't squid karaage at all, but instead something called ika rings ($6).

We did manage to share one umami bun ($4.50) among the four of us:

The bun contained pork, cucumber, carrot, and baby arugula with house sauce.  Also kind of on the meh side.

CV and T split the spicy sesame ramen ($11):

The spicy tonkotsu soup base came mixed with sesame paste and was topped with ground pork, bean sprouts, fried garlic chips, half an egg, baby bok choy, green onions, and seaweed.

Abby and I got the Tajima ramen ($11.50):

The house ramen had pork chashu, fried garlic, green onions, half an egg, bean sprouts, baby arugula, sesame seeds, and seaweed.

The ramen itself wasn't super memorable, but you know what was?  The supremely disappointing egg.  I mean, look at it.  It was overcooked and nothing like what a good ramen egg should be.

We probably should have just stayed at the motel and watched cheesy Lifetime movies.  Sigh.

    1. If you like spicy, you would definitely like that one over the regular. I would skip Tajima though. I think there must be better spicy ramen in San Diego. =/
