Orange County: Oc & Lau

The minute Abby finished her residency interview, we swooped in, picked her up, and then hightailed it north.  T had one request for the entire SoCal trip and that was to eat at Oc & Lau, where we met up with her friend KC:

The place was PACKED:

The wait was pretty long, so when a booth opened up, we seized it even though it wasn't exactly designed for five people.  We made it work.

We started off with a lychee lemonade ($8.50 for a jug):

It was delightful.  I wanted to hoard all of it to myself, but I pretended to be a nice person and shared.

We then proceeded to have a seafood feast, starting with grilled blood clams with buttered green onions ($10.99):

Followed by steamed clams with lemongrass ($10.99):

And the Thai seafood hot pot ($22.99):

It came with a whole platter of seafood:

A plate of greens:

And vermicelli noodles:

To balance out the noodles, we also ordered the crab and shrimp fried rice ($14.99):

One of T's greatest loves is razor clams.  When we found out that they were out of razor clams on the half shell, T was devastated.  She was still pouting about it halfway through the meal, so we flagged down a server and added the stir fried razor clams with on choy ($13.50.).  No shell, but still amazing:

To wrap up the meal, we were brought a complimentary dessert of coconut cream and taro paste:

All of us left the restaurant entirely satiated and very pleased with ourselves.  Everything was delicious and fresh and not heavy at all.

Good thing we left when we did.  If we'd sat there a bit longer, we might have ordered more.  There are just so many other scrumptious sounding things on the menu.  I can see why people would want to go back time and again.
