Malaysia: Red Garden

When we asked Old Man Fang for dinner recs, he directed us to Red Garden, which is apparently popular with locals and tourists alike:

Red Garden is a giant collection of food stands, each offering up something different:

We weren't exactly hungry (esp after our beyond filling lunch), but we wanted to try something distinctively Malaysian.  What we found was rojak:

The concept of rojak appealed to us.  I mean, who doesn't like fruit salad?  However, the actual dish was almost repellent.  The problem was the rojak dressing.  Made of shrimp paste and who knows what else, the dressing was goopy and shrimpy and altogether too intense to be pleasant.  We kept trying to find pieces of fruit that had the least amount of dressing on them.

Thank goodness for orange juice to wash out the taste:

Sadly, we weren't that impressed with Red Garden.  Sorry, Old Man Fang.
