Greece: To Kati Allo

After dropping off at our Airbnb the steaks and fish we finally agreed to let our father buy at Varvakeios Market, we headed over to the Acropolis Museum to continue our regularly rescheduled vacation program.

Our big takeaway from the museum was that Greece has been royally screwed over by other countries.  You can see more Parthenon sculptures abroad than in the Parthenon itself.  (Oh look, here's a foot.  If you want to see the rest, buy a ticket to the British Museum.)  We left shaking our fists at Lord Elgin and hunting for dinner to eat our anger.

Luckily, we didn't have to look very far.  To Kato Allo was located just around the corner:

We weren't sure if the restaurant was open yet as there was nobody inside:

But then the owner (?) with his Greek guitar gestured for us to enter and in we went.  He explained that we could either read the menu posted outside or simply peruse what was in the display counter:

We opted for the visual method and he was kind enough to walk us through every single dish.  After picking out what we wanted, we went to our table to wait for our dinner to be reheated.

Bread came first:

We asked for the peppers stuffed with rice:

Stewed beef over rice:

Some kind of sausage stew...over rice:

And some kind of veggie stew, you got it, with rice:

Yes, it was a lot of rice.

As if that wasn't enough, my sister wanted moussaka too:

Honestly, I wasn't super impressed with To Kati Allo.  Everything was just a tad too salty and felt a little too much like eating reheated leftovers.  Don't get me wrong.  We went to other restaurants with a similar service style, but the dishes at To Kati Allo just tasted a bit...stale?

Even so, I wasn't mad at it.  The food had a home-cooked feel and prices were reasonable at around 6-10€ per dish.  The owner entertained everyone with his singing and guitar playing.  Meanwhile, his wife toiled away in the kitchen.

Typical.
