San Diego: Oscars Mexican Seafood
Nearly hidden by its flashier smoke shop neighbor, you can find Oscars Mexican Seafood by simply getting into the long line outside:
It'll inevitably take you into the small taco shop. All you'll find inside is a counter where you place your order:
The interior is so small that you'll be forced to step outside to wait. Pay close attention or risk not hearing your number when its called.
My sister and I split four tacos:
We got a grilled octopus taco ($4.80):
A grilled shrimp taco ($4.60):
And two fried fish tacos ($1.99 each):
We originally wanted to try to smoked fish, but there were out. We also wanted to try the ceviche, but they were out of that as well. Sigh.
What we did manage to order, however, were delicious. Even if they weren't the cheapest tacos around. Each taco came topped with cabbage, onion, tomato, and cilantro. The grilled octopus and shrimp tacos also came with cheese and avocado. Sauces as self-serve, as are the limes.
Definitely douse your tacos in the orange sauce (chipotle?). It's delish. Not quite as amazing as the orange sauce at La Victoria, but pretty damn good.
Definitely stalk people to snag the first open stool at a table outside. Otherwise be prepared to eat your tacos in your car. It'll be messy.
