South Bay: Walia Ethiopian Cuisine

Returning from vacay means meeting up with friends to hand over souvenirs.  My sister was craving Ethiopian, so we talked CK into meeting us there back on Martin Luther King's Day:

We had the day off, but CK had to work.  Luckily, she managed to slip out for lunch.

The three of us split a house combo ($46.95):

It came with the veggie combo, which included shiro (pureed chickpeas), misir wot (split red lentils), alicha wot (yellow split peas), gomen (collared greens), and atikilt wot (cabbage, carrots, and tomatoes).  As well as the doro wot (stewed chicken drumstick with hardboiled egg and cheese) and lamb tibs.

Of course all of it came on a lining of injera and a refillable basket of additional injera rolls:

We went through quite a few baskets of those.

Because my sister checked in on Yelp, we were allowed to choose one free vegetarian side dish.  Since the misir wot was CL's favorite, we went with that:

Woot!  I'm always in for free stuff.  Especially delicious free stuff.

While the portion sizes of each item didn't look too impressive on the platter, the three of us were stuffed by the end of the meal.  The unlimited injera probably had a lot to do with that.

Food was good.  Service was great.  My only complaint would have to be the price.  For mostly veggies, it hurt me to fork 47 bucks.  Yes, everything was delicious, but still.  47 bucks!!

Fortunately, I don't crave Ethiopian all that often.  But when I do, I know where to go.  Walia is awesome, yo.
