Malaysia: Restoran Kin Kin

The Internet told us to visit Restoran Kin Kin while we were in Kuala Lumpur:

Always listen to the Internet.  (Actually, that's a lie.  Use good judgment when determining what to believe on the Internet!)  In our case, we listened twice and its took both times to figure out how the restaurant works.

There is no menu at Kin Kin.  It only serves one thing.  Kin Kin's dry chili pan mee brings all the boys (and girls) to the yard:

Lunch hours in Malaysia must be super long because I don't see how else these people find the time to eat there.

When you enter, you're directed to a table.  Once you're seated, a server comes by with a tray of drinks.  Or at least one did the first time we visited.  The second time, we had to ask for the iced tea:

As for how to order the pan mee, it took us two visits to get it right...by doing it wrong both times.  The first time we went to Kin Kin, I accidentally did the correct thing by going up to the owner at the front and asking for a menu.  After he laughed at me, he told me he only served one thing and asked me how many I wanted.  I told him two.

The second time we went, we sat at our designated table for over an hour, watching others who came later get their pan mee before we finally went up to the front to ask.

Since I'm a nice person.  I'm going to tell you what to do at Kin Kin so that you don't repeat our mistakes.  Once you're directed to a table, send someone to go up to the front and tell whoever is up there how many bowls of pan mee you want.  Point out where you're sitting and make sure it's written on the clipboard.

If you do this, you'll reap the benefits.

Kin Kin's dry chili pan mee looks deceivingly simple:

Don't be fooled though.  It may look like noodles with minced meat, fried anchovies, and a poached egg, but it's really so much more.

And it's all thanks to this:

Kin Kin's dry chili is beyond ridiculous.  It's crack chili, seriously.  It's so fragrant and HOT.  It doesn't seem like very spicy at first, but then it hits you.  BAM.  Hurts so good.

I'm total weaksauce when it comes to spicy things, so if I tell you it's good...it's good.

CK tried to see if she could buy a can of the dry chili, but no luck there.

And before I forget, make sure you pop the egg yolk.

That's right.  I said it.  My friends probably have their jaws hanging wide open right about now.  I'm a notorious yolk Nazi.  I throw a fit whenever my egg yolk gets popped.  But I'll make an exception for Kin Kin.  The runny egg yolk mixes with the dry chili in a way that's just magical.

Kin Kin also offers soup:

We saw some other tables with different kinds of soup.  We didn't go enough times to figure out how that works.

Sorry.

Don't expect great service at Kin Kin.  Focus on the food.  It's that good.  Why else would we go twice on two separate days?
