San Diego: Harry's Coffee Shop
Two things to know about Jiejie are 1) she loves animals and 2) she loves diner food. So to sweeten the deal a bit, we took her to Harry's Coffee Shop for breakfast:
Since it was a Sunday morning, it was no surprise to us that there was quite a wait for a table. But once we made it in, it was clear that we were in for the old school diner experience:
Touted as La Jolla's oldest diner, Harry's Coffee Shop had a menu that was both nostalgic and innovative.
CK ordered the Riviera omelette ($13.99):
The omelette was stuffed with tomatoes and spinach and topped with guacamole and melted cheddar cheese. It was accompanied by the fluffiest of hash browns and one buttermilk pancake:
Jiejie, as per usual, went the more traditional route with the superfecta ($13.99):
It included two eggs, two slices of bacon, hash browns, and a side of pancakes:
As for me, I wanted to try something a bit different and so I went with the B.W. Benny ($13.99):
The crispy waffle had bacon both inside and on top along with grilled ham, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce. It was savory and sweet and everything that is good about breakfast.
CK saw the cinnamon rolls ($3.99) on display and was curious to try one:
It was dense and delicious, but honestly, CK makes better ones. I may be biased because she's my friend though.
Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed the laid back vibe at Harry's Coffee Shop. The service was friendly without being stifling and the food was top notch in price, quantity, and taste. It also appeased Jiejie until we got to the beach and she realized she actually had to get into a kayak.
Heh.
