South Bay: Demiya

Demiya was on Abby's list, so we went to check it out along with her boyfriend UK:

The parking lot was small and the plaza seemingly really popular, so it was only by sheer luck that we managed to score a spot.

How Demiya works is that you place your order at the counter, find a seat, and then pick up your food when it's ready.  Ordering the food wasn't a problem for us because we got there a little before the lunchtime rush:

The problem was finding a table afterward.  There weren't all that many and all were taken.  The food was also ready pretty quickly.  We had to obnoxiously hover over another party until they finally finished and left.  Even then, the three of us were squished into a two-seater with an extra stool.

As the line started to grow, tensions also started to rise.  A fight almost broke out between two families.  One hadn't ordered yet, but already snagged a table.  The other already had their food, but didn't have a place to sit.

It all made for a very uncomfortable dining experience.  So uncomfortable that I couldn't really enjoy my beef shabu-shabu curry ($14.80):

I could have added additional toppings (such as cheese for $1.50 and veggies or an egg for $2), but I thought the base price was already kind of high for curry and rice and didn't particularly want to spend more.

It did come with a small salad:

Abby got the chicken-katsu don while UK ordered the tonkatsu don (both $12.50).  Their donburi came with a miso soup on top of the salad:

The food was good, I'll give Demiya that.  But it really wasn't good enough to counterbalance the stress of dining in that space.  They really need to implement a better system when it gets busy.

I, for one, certainly won't be back.  Other people might like their lunch with a side of drama, but I'll pass.
