Taiwan: Sugar Ice Shop
taro video was Sugar Ice Shop:
The shop was pretty narrow, but there's additional seating on the second floor. We placed our order at the counter and then headed upstairs:
And when I said "we", I meant Jiejie ordered for us. It's useful going around Taiwan with a Taiwanese person.
Since the six of us couldn't just get one shaved ice, we got two. (Not that much better, but we were upstairs and the staff wasn't present to judge us.) We ordered the mixed jelly with lemon juice (60 NT / $1.93):
Besides grass jelly and ai-yu, there was also an unidentified pink jelly that was slightly floral. Combined with the lemon juice and brown sugar syrup, it was refreshing and perfect for such a hot day.
The super taro (70 NT / $2.26), however, was what drew us to Sugar Ice Shop in the first place:
This gorgeous beast was a taro explosion with its taro balls, taro paste, and sweet taro chunks. It also included glutinous rice balls, brown sugar syrup, and condensed milk. I'm usually more of a snow ice gal, but the thick taro paste made this shaved ice creamy and delicious.
CK, my taro-loving friend, would've loved this. Too bad she didn't come to Taiwan with us.
Sucks to suck, CK.
(When I googled Sugar Ice Shop to find its address, I saw on its Facebook page that they'll be closing in October this year due to lease issues. Fingers crossed that they'll find a new location soon!)

Another taro spot we got from Ku's Dream's Taipei The shop was pretty narrow, but there's additional seating on the second floor. We placed our order at the counter and then headed upstairs:
