Taiwan: Addiction Aquatic Development
Addiction Aquatic Development is essentially heaven for seafood lovers. There's a fish market (think upscale fish market):
Where you can buy super fresh fish:
And crustaceans:
There's also a section where you can buy fresh sashimi and sushi:
All pre-packed in boxes:
As well as a section for hot food:
There are also sit down restaurants, but where's the fun in that? It's all about going ham in the market and accidentally buying more than you intended because everything looks so good.
After checking out, we realized that the real test was finding a table. Addiction Aquatic Development is crazy popular, so expect masses of people, even on weekdays. We got lucky and managed to score a standing table relatively quickly.
Then it was time to enjoy the fruits of our labor. What? Exercising self control while food shopping is hard work!
Our bounty included this sashimi combo set (370 NT / $11.80):
And another one, because why not? (380 NT / $12.10):
My mother doesn't eat raw fish, so we got unagi for her (360 NT / $11.50):
She was also really into the scallop rice (120 NT / $3.80):
And the grilled pork (150 NT / $4.80):
And the veggie maki sushi (140 NT / $4.45):
To make my mother really happy, we also got a chawanmushi or steamed egg with clam (90 NT / $2.85) and a miso soup (35 NT / $1.10):
The miso was a bit too fishy for my mother's taste, but the rest of us loved it.
If it wasn't for my mother, we would've gotten way more sashimi. But alas, she birthed us, so she gets priority. (I'm definitely going without her next time. Heh. All that uni is MINE.)
Addiction Aquatic Development isn't the cheapest place for seafood, but everything there is so, so fresh. And half of the fun lies in the experience of shopping around. Don't have too much fun though. It'll be really easy to unintentionally blow your budget right out of the water.
Water. Get it?
Alright, I'll stop now.
