Taiwan: Jin Feng Lu Rou Fan

Braised pork rice (lu rou fan in Chinese) is a Taiwanese classic and Jin Feng supposedly serves one of the best.  I've had quite a few bowls of lu rou fan in my lifetime, but I'd never been to Jin Feng.  I figured there was no better excuse to check it out than when CL, T, and CV joined us in Taipei.

There was a pretty respectable line outside when we arrived:

Not surprising given its reputation and its limited space.

The reason for the line, Jin Feng's lu rou fan, came in small, medium, and large.  Trying to conserve stomach space for a day of eating, we ordered small bowls (30 NT / $0.97):

After waiting so long in line, we couldn't walk away with just rice.  We added on a medium plate of bamboo (30 NT):

And an order of braised pork (40 NT / $1.30):

As well as two pieces of tofu (10 NT / $0.32 each):

So...was it worth the fuss?  Meh.  Honestly, lu rou fan is generally delicious just about anywhere.  Jin Feng's version wasn't so different or special as to stand out from the rest of the pack.  And while it's certainly very cheap, you can find it just as cheap elsewhere without the long wait.

Final verdict?  Good, but not worth all the hype.
