San Francisco: Tacorea

Abby was awarded a Kaiser scholarship this year.  Even though she was living in San Francisco at the time, Kaiser paid for a hotel the weekend of the award dinner.  Luckily for me, Abby was allowed a plus one.

We checked into Hotel Nikko Friday night and immediately went out seeking food.  Abby had heard about Tacorea a few blocks away and judging from the line, we figured it would be good:

The place was tiny and packed with people:

Fortunately, we spotted Abby's friend and fellow Kaiser recipient at a table across the room.  After some furtive texting, we colluded to snag his table once he was done eating.

The hand off went smoothly and soon enough we were seated and waiting for our food.

We got the super tater tot nachos ($9.95):

It came topped with cheese, guacamole, salsa, crema, queso cotija, and pico de gallo.  We chose Mama Lee's spicy pork as our meat.

We also go the big Ricardo ($12.50):

This beast of a burrito was stuffed with tater tots, bulgogi, cheese, and guac, then smothered in enchilada sauce before being crowned with a fried egg.

We shared a table with some German tourists.  The elderly father kept staring at our plates.  It was as if he'd never seen two Asian girls pack it away before.

That said, it was a lot of food.  We struggled to finish everything.  (I'm not as young as I used to be.  Sigh.)

While both dishes were delicious, the meats ran a little sweet for my tastes.  It was a fun experience, but I don't think I'll brave the masses again for Tacorea.
