New Orleans: Acme Oyster House

Because we didn't really have a place in mind for our last dinner in New Orleans, we once again relied on the recommendation of a Lyft driver.  Of multiple Lyft drivers.  We were told that Acme Oyster House had amazing seafood, so there we went:

There was quite a line, but it wasn't too long before we were seated inside:

We got half a dozen chargrilled oysters ($11.99) to start:

They were doused in herb butter sauce and topped with cheese.  So good that we toyed with the idea of ordering another half dozen.

We figured we hadn't really had enough jambalaya ($11.99):

Jambalaya is just one of those comfort foods that you can't stop eating once you start.  Or maybe that's just me.  I love rice.

After that failed soft shell crab attempt at Cochon, we wanted to give New Orleans a chance to redeem itself.  The fried soft shell crab platter (two for $23.99) came with fries and the choice of hush puppies, coleslaw, or potato salad (we went with the hush puppies):

Now that's precisely how soft shell crab should be.  For less than the price of one crab at Cochon, we got two bigger ones at Acme.  They might not have been fancily dressed, but they were meaty and actually tasted like crab.

To celebrate our last night in New Orleans, we added on bread pudding with whiskey sauce ($5.99) for dessert:

Warm and gooey, it was the perfect way to end the evening.

If you want good seafood without any fuss, Acme Oyster House is the way to go.  Prices are reasonable and service is attentive.

Thank goodness for Lyft driver recommendations!
