Tri-City: Bun Appetit

When we heard there was a (relatively) new donut shop in town that's rockin' Asian-inspired flavors, we knew we had to check it out.  Of course we dragged our cousin with us to Bun Appetit:

We found a super cute shop with lots of natural light and an airy interior space:

We painstakingly selected four donuts and then proceeded to have a photo shoot outside.  An older Asian lady was so tickled by us that she took pictures of us taking pictures of the donuts.

There was definitely a bit of shame involved when we hurriedly fled the scene.  What's funny is that we didn't even end up using any of the photos we took outside of Bun Appetit.  Unhappy with how those turned out, we took a couple more shots outside of our own house.

After finally capturing the picture we wanted, we methodically cut each donut into equal pieces and had a taste-and-discuss-session.  Starting with the Thai tea cream ($3.50):

The cream to donut ratio was definitely more cream than donut:

The other popular choice was the guava cheesecake ($4.50):

Bun Appetit really knows their filled donuts, just look at the cheesecake filling:

For my father, we got the coconut dulce de leche ($4.50):

It was filled with this lovely coconut cream:

And finally, there was the Ferrero Rocher ($3.50), which had no filling:

Let's just get this out of the way: the donuts ain't cheap.

But the flavors are interesting (they even have a savory everything donut!), the execution is perfection, and they make the ideal treat yourself moment.  So while these aren't the type of donuts you buy daily or even once a week, there's nothing wrong with getting one or two when you need a pick-me-up or when you want to be a good friend.

Bon appetit!
