South Bay: Metro Balderas
Ever since my sister and I took our food journey onto Instagram, we have connected with other foodies all across the country and even across the world. Our local foodie fam is the most precious to us, however, as they give us recommendations of places we can actually get to rather than places we would need a plane ticket to reach. (Unless someone wants to sponsor us? Yea? No? Sigh, well, it was worth a shot.)
One new foodie friend told us about Metro Balderas:
Abby and I went along with my visiting cousin, CK, and AG. We got excited the minute we saw the al pastor rotating on the spit:
We placed our order inside and then found a table outside to wait at. We were first brought some complimentary chips and salsa:
Then came the parade of tacos. We wanted my cousin to try as many of our favorites as possible, so we would've been remiss if we hadn't ordered a lengua taco ($2.50) or a cabeza one ($2.25):
The chicharron ($2.25) turned out to be the spiciest:
And with that beautiful spit in our line of sight, we certainly couldn't pass on the al pastor ($2.25):
Just in case that wasn't filling enough, we also added on rice and beans ($3.75)
The tripas taco was my favorite, no surprise there. It was fried and crispy and greasy and everything you want in a taco. Not quite as delicious as the tripas at Taqueria Sinaloa in Oakland, but pretty darn good.
I would definitely go back again.
