Tri-City: Sweet Home Cafe

Over Memorial Day weekend (yes, that's how behind I am), T, my sister, and I went hiking up Mission Peak.  We gained back all the calories burned on the hike by having lunch at General Pot followed up dessert at Sweet Home Café:

If not for Yelp, we never would have discovered the place as it is tucked in a pretty empty plaza.  I never knew there were restaurants back there.

Sweet Home Café's interior is split into two distinct décor concepts:

There's the hipster brick section and the homey-living-room-feel section.

While Sweet Home Café serves food, we weren't there for that.  We skipped right over to the sweets.

The signature roll sounded interesting as we'd never heard of wrapping fruit in rice noodle sheets.  We decided to give the mango roll ($4.99) a whirl:

It was literally a hunk of mango wrapped in a rice noodle sheet:

And it tasted exactly as you would expect.  Like mango and rice noodle.  Not bad, but kind of also something you can probably do at home.

The pancake was much more impressive:

We ordered the durian one ($5.99) and it was essentially a durian and whipped cream gift wrapped in a thin crepe:

Now that was some amazing durian.  I would get that again, 100% YES.

The ice cream taiyaki ($5.99) was aesthetically pleasing:

But not exactly all that exciting.  Most of the ice cream sits at the top, so by the time you make it to the tail (hopefully without making a mess), it's just bread.

I just had a brilliant idea.  They should serve the taiyaki with a side of CONDENSED MILK.  Oh my gawd.  Has this been done before?  Am I a genius?!

Achem.  Anyway.  Sweet Home Café seems like a good place to hang out with friends.  There's plenty of parking, plenty of tables, and plenty of things to choose from on the menu.  Prices aren't bad either, which is always a plus.
