SF Peninsula: Keith's Chicken N Waffles

In June, I once again dragged my family into volunteering at a naturalization workshop in the city.  The venue was near Balboa Park this time around, so we figured we could grab dinner in the Daly City area on our way back to the South Bay.  My sister was responsible for Yelping a restaurant.  Out of the many options she found, Keith's Chicken N Waffles sounded the most appealing to the rest of us:

Located in a auto shop/car dealership area, Keith's Chicken N Waffles didn't seem like a place that would attract much foot traffic.  And yet people kept coming through the door.

Most people ordered their food to-go.  Not surprising since half the interior was taken up by the kitchen, while the other half just had a couple tables and counter seating:

It took quite a bit of deliberation to decide what we wanted to order.  We basically wanted to try everything, but alas, we needed to be realistic about our stomach capacities.

That said, we got the eight piece bucket family meal ($21.95).  Dark meat, of course:

It came with two pieces of cornbread and a large side.

For our side, we went with the bomb mac 'n cheese:

If you order a large on its own, it'll cost you $9.95.  While the "bomb" mac 'n cheese was indeed delicious, I don't know if it was bomb enough to be worth almost 10 bucks.

The chicken was on the salty side, but still very crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.  Just the way it should be.

You can't have chicken without a waffle.  The gourmet Belgian ($6) was the perfect sweet counterbalance to the savory chicken:

However, the best discovery at Keith's was the sweet potato waffle ($7):

If you get absolutely nothing else, get this.  The waffle itself if made with sweet potato and it is topped with candied yams.  Freakin' amazing.  I'm not usually a sweet potato fan and even I was blown away.  Highly recommend it.

The service at Keith's was also top notch.  One of the staff asked us how we liked the food.  He must have been touched by how enthusiastic our response was because out of nowhere, a complimentary basket of fries was brought to our table:

Fries are always welcome, especially if they're free.  I love me some good old-fashioned hand cut fries.  And if there's a puddle of oil at the bottom of the basket?  Even better.

Loved Keith's Chicken N Waffles.  I loved how personable the staff was and how it served good food with no unnecessary frills.

And Keith, whoever you are, bless you.  Bless you for your sweet potato waffle.
