South Bay: TeaZer

I went hiking in Alum Rock with my friend PC in June.  We spent the entire hike trying to figure out the storyline of The Lake House, which I caught the ending of at her house while waiting for her to get ready.  Of course that then led to a discussion of the Korean original, but eventually we got back to the more important stuff...like what to eat for lunch.

We decided on sticking close to the area and found the fairly newly opened TeaZer:

Cutely decorated, TeaZer felt like the perfect after school hangout:

We zeroed in on the food menu the minute we walked in.  I got the banh mi thit nuong ($5.95):

Which was grilled five spice pork and peanut-scallion aioli on top of the usual accoutrements (pickled veggies, cucumber, cilantro, and mayo).

PC got the banh mi ba chi ($5.50) or braised pork belly:

We exchanged halves so that we could try both sandwiches.  Personally, I preferred the pork belly as the meat was a bit fattier and juicier.  The five spice pork was a tad dry and I was very disappointed that I couldn't taste the peanut-scallion aioli, since that was what convinced me to order it in the first place.

So...worth a return trip?  Maybe to try the drinks and other snacks, but for the banh mi?  Nah.  They just weren't gourmet or special enough to justify paying $6 for what you can get elsewhere in San Jose for $3 (and that taste better too).

After TeaZer, we further negated our hike by walking across the street to Peters' Bakery for some burnt almond cake to-go.

You can't be in the vicinity of Peters' Bakery and NOT stop by for some cake.  That must be a rule somewhere...
