El Paso: Kiki's Mexican Restaurant
There wasn't any wait, so we were seated immediately. The interior had an old school local diner feel, complete with wooden paneled walls and ceiling fans.
A plate of chips and salsa were promptly brought to us:
The first thing on the specialties section of Kiki's menu was the machaca ($13.50 with brisket):
Machaca is essentially meat, onions, tomato, cheese, eggs, and chili smothered in chile con queso and served with beans and rice.
We also ordered the chile colorado ($10.75) off of the specialties section:
Think pork and potato stew in a red sauce.
To get a bit of everything, we got the number three combo ($13.95):
This combo consisted of one red cheese enchilada, one meat taco, one flauta, one chile relleno, guacamole, rice, and beans. Really a bit of everything.
The portion sizes at Kiki's were seriously massive. The four of us could barely finish the three plates. The food though...was missing something. Some kind of oomph? Everything was decent, just a tad bland.
We left Kiki's stuffed, yet somewhat underwhelmed. We didn't stay in El Paso after that. In the 1.5 hours it took us to drive to Alamogordo, NM from El Paso, Kiki's quickly became a distant memory.
