West Yellowstone: Wild West Pizzeria & Saloon
We did find elk to be pretty interesting though:
On the way from one trailhead to another, we spotted a group of people staring intensely across the road with binoculars and heavy duty cameras. Being curious people, we pulled over to ask what they were all looking at. Apparently, there was an injured bison in the distance and they were waiting to see if a pack of wolves would show up.
While part of us wanted to see wolves, another part was a tad queasy about watching them hunt an injured bison. So we continued on our way.
We talked about the missed opportunity over dinner at Wild West Pizzeria & Saloon:
The place had an old-timey feel to it:
We started off by splitting a macaroni and cheese ($13):
Quite cheesy and delicious, but it wasn't that creamy consistency that we loved the evening before at Firehole Bar-B-Que.
Something got a little lost in communication while we were figuring out how many pizzas to get. We wanted two 12 inch pizzas ($21 each), which was correct. But somehow they both got split half half:
Each pizza came with half Calamity Jane and half Wild West Supreme
The Calamity Jane was topped with white sauce, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, ricotta cheese, minced garlic, and fresh tomatoes:
The Wild West Supreme, on the other hand, was covered with peperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, onions, black olives, and both green and red peppers. We asked for ours to come with pesto sauce since T is not a fan of tomato sauce:
That was probably the most vegetable we had on that trip. Is that sad? Or is that a GLORIOUS vacation?
Anyway, the pizzas at Wild West were solid. They were freshly made and loaded with toppings. The service was friendly, the atmosphere relaxed, and the prices reasonable. We definitely enjoyed our time there.
Firehole's mac and cheese was still better though.
