Jackson Hole: The Bird

We couldn't leave Yellowstone National Park without checking out Old Faithful now could we?  Early in the morning, we hiked up to Observation Point to get a view of the geyser from above.  We had to wait a bit in the rain until Old Faithful was ready to blow, but it was worth it:

Afterwards, T and I continued along the Upper Geyser Basin loop while CL and DK headed back to the Old Faithful Lodge.  Unfortunately, CL's ankle was a bit wonky and she missed out on some smaller, but no less cool geysers and hot springs, like the morning glory pool:

We made sure to show her all of our photos though, of which there were a lot.  And I do mean a lot.  Poor CL definitely didn't ask for the full slideshow, but that's what she got.

Our last stop in Yellowstone was the West Thumb Geyser Basin:

Then, it was onwards to Grand Teton National Park.  We stopped at a couple scenic viewpoints, but the sky was so overcast that the Tetons were nowhere to be seen.  We ultimately gave up and headed to Jackson Hole, WY.

Having checked into our motel, the last item on our itinerary for the day was dinner.  The Bird was a ways away from the center of town, but it sounded very promising:

The interior felt like a combination of a lodge, a local bar, and a restaurant.  The décor was woodsy, the lighting was dim, and the focus of the main room was definitely the giant bar in the center.

CL, DK, and T had a field day trying the local beers, but as I'm not a drinker, I cared more about the actual food.  And boy, they were not playing around with the food.

We ordered the bier-brat plate ($24), which consisted of two brats, kraut, and a choice of fries or mashed potatoes:

Our server recommended the schnitzel ($20) and who wouldn't want a giant slab of fried pork tenderloin?:

It also came with a choice of fries or mashed potatoes.

There were quite a lot of burgers on the menu.  The burgers came with either a 4 oz ground brisket patty or a 9 oz one.  You could have your patty prepared rare, medium rare, medium, or medium well.  Well done (or "wrong decision" as they called it) was hilariously not even an option.

We ordered the works ($17 for 4 oz):

It came loaded with bacon, your choice of cheese, grilled onions, and mushrooms.

The patty melt ($15 for 4 oz patty) was a beast to behold:

We had to stretch our mouths to get it around all that swiss and American cheese, grilled onions, beef patty, and rye bread.

Each burger was accompanied by lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and our choice of fries or chips.

Everything was delicious.  Everything.  There was not a single miss among all that we ordered.  The schnitzel was freshly fried and not greasy at all.  The brats and burgers were savory and juicy.  Even the fries and mashed potatoes were good!

So glad we ventured a bit further to try out The Bird.  If you're visiting the Tetons, definitely hit them up for a chill place to grab a beer and enjoy a meal.
