Fresno: Red Apple Cafe

Kings Canyon was next on our trip itinerary. On the way there from Yosemite, we stopped by Fresno for brunch.  After eating nothing but cup noodles and rice balls for a couple days, the idea of getting a full American-style brunch with all the fixings was really, really appealing.

A quick Yelp search turned up Red Apple Cafe:

The interior was way too packed with people for our comfort, so we elected to dine outside.

Abby ordered the chilaquiles ($13.50):

The tortilla chips came loaded with scrambled eggs, shredded beef (another option was chicken), onions, tomatoes, ortega chiles, cheese, salsa, sour cream, and avocado.  As if that weren't enough, it also came with a side of country potatoes.

UK ordered the country fried steak and eggs ($14.75):

Instead of potatoes and toast, he opted for six baby cakes, which was basically another meal in itself:

I'm a sucker for potatoes, so I got the chorizo, ortega chilies, onions, salsa, and sour cream on potatoes ($14.50):

It also included scrambled eggs and cheese.

One of the daily specials was the apple pie french toast ($11.95), which T saw on the specials board when she went inside to put our name down:

We must have been starving because we managed to finish everything.  Everything.  Every single potato.  It was so much food, but we couldn't stop shoving more into our mouths.  At the end of the meal, we sat back in horror at what we'd done.

So much for having leftovers.

I don't know if it was because we hadn't seen real food in a few days, but everything we ordered at Red Apple Cafe was pretty damn amazing.  Not only was every dish delicious, the portion sizes were no joke.  Prices were also reasonable and the service was friendly.

I might not have any many excuses to visit Fresno, but I'll certainly recommend Red Apple Cafe to anyone who's looking for a solid brunch spot in the Central Valley.
