Philippines: Roadside Eatery
We also got back just in time for a late lunch. After a bit of wandering around, we found our way into Roadside Eatery:
Cafeteria style, Roadside Eatery lets you walk down the counter and pick what you want:
Nothing was labeled, so we just went with what caught our interest. There was also no price posted, so I can't tell you the cost of each dish, but trust me when I say everything was super cheap.
We each got rice:
Which went super well with this eggplant dish:
We ordered a pork soup that came with these strange greens that we'd never seen before:
It tasted a little grassy, but in the best way possible. I don't think I've ever had refreshing pork broth before this.
We were curious about the Filipino version of siu mai:
It wasn't bad, but I prefer the Chinese kind.
An order of this dish came with one solitary piece of pork:
It was good, but our favorite of the meal was probably this picadillo:
You really can't go wrong with ground beef and potatoes.
The food might come a bit lukewarm, but it's homey and good. There no bells and whistles at Roadside Eatery. What you see is exactly what you get. You won't find it in the tour books, but this hole in the wall is where the locals go for a quick meal.
(No, really. I can't find this restaurant anywhere online. Not even on Tripadvisor!)
