Costa Rica: La Sorbetera de Lolo Mora

The last leg of our Costa Rica adventure was a two day, one night stay at a resort in Tortuguero. Neither Abby nor I are really resort-y people, but for the sake of seeing sea turtles, we were willing to fork over the cash and our freedom.

Our resort pick up was scheduled for early in the morning, so we spent the night before in San Jose. We had about half a day to explore the city and we started where we always do, at the market.  San Jose's Central Market was a maze of stalls selling everything from clothing to cookware, from fresh fruit and vegetables to fresh fish and meat.

In our experience, markets are always the best place to find good eats and San Jose's Central Market was no exception.  There were many little restaurants tucked in various alleyways, each one filled with locals getting their grub on.

We decided to get dessert first at La Sorbetera de Lolo Mora:

While there's various fruit juices and milkshakes on Lolo Mora's menu, there's really only one thing you should be ordering.  And that's the ice cream.  There's only one flavor: vanilla cinnamon:

The texture is more like a slushy than ice cream.  It is icy and basically drinkable with a straw, but it's way more fun to eat it out of a glass with a spoon.  The small size, which we got, is ₡1500 or around $2.30 each.

Not too sweet, it's perfect for a hot day.  Just don't eat it too quickly or you'll definitely get brain freeze.
