Costa Rica: Chocolate Fusion

Since it was our last night in Arenal, we decided to treat ourselves to some dessert after dinner.  Chocolate Fusion seemed really popular, so that's where we went:

We took our time admiring all the offerings:

We ultimately settled on a slice of torta chilena (₡2500 or around $3.75):

And an alfajor (₡1700 or around $2.55)

Abby was really curious about Chocolate Fusion's god's drink (₡2000 or around $3):

While I played it safe and went with the hot chocolate (₡2000):

After sampling everything, we began surreptitiously discussing how much we needed to consume before we could leave and not offend the staff.  Torta chilena is essentially the Costa Rican mille feuille.  It's supposed to be flaky and crisp, but maybe because it was late in the evening, Chocolate Fusion's torta chilena was stale.  The alfajor was the best thing we had there, but it was very sweet as is to be expected.

God's drink turned out to be a chocolate tea of sorts.  We kept dumping sugar packet after sugar packet into the mug, but no amount of sugar could save us from the bitterness.  We used so much sugar that we actually felt embarrassed.

I guess we're just not cultured enough to appreciate the real chocolate in the drinks.  Even the hot chocolate was way too bitter.

Honestly, Chocolate Fusion is a pass for me.  It's just not my cup of tea.

Hehe...see what I did there?

  1. Thanks for sharing your experience but I hope that review doesn't dissuade anyone from trying Chocolate Fusion. I found this review because I got online to figure out if I could mail order more of their God's Drink mix since I've gone through two packs since our May 2023 visit. What a fabulous place! We spent a couple hours there sipping drinks, trying various treats and selecting the pieces we would get to go. I would love to go back. Easily a highlight of our stay in La Fortuna (along with morning drinks at Cafe Metropoli, and the seafood soup at Tierra Mia Restaurante, and.... we really need to go back)
