Costa Rica: Sabor Tico

If you're researching places to eat in Monteverde, you've probably come across Sabor Tico multiple times.  After a day of hiking and ziplining through the cloud forest, Abby and I didn't want to think too hard about where to eat for dinner.  So to Sabor Tico we went:

If it weren't for our taxi driver pointing out the restaurant on the second floor, we might have struggled a bit to find Sabor Tico.  There wasn't exactly a line out the door:

Again, we weren't concerned about the lack of other diners.  In fact, it was rather nice to have the restaurant to ourselves.

To start off, Abby ordered a mango shake (₡1850 or around $2.90) and I got a lemonade with mint (₡1450 or around $2.30):

Made with fresh fruit, of course.

Abby wanted to try the tortilla alinada with sour cream (₡1450 or around $2.30):

The grilled tortilla had a subtly sweet corn flavor that was really simple yet lovely.

From the Tico specialties section of the menu, we ordered the olla de carne (₡3950 or around $6.20):

Which was a clear beef broth with corn, casava, potato, and other root veggies.

We also got the patacones (₡4350 or around $6.80):

These fried mashed plantains came with guacamole, meat sauce, and beans.  It didn't look like a lot, but they were quite filling.

Abby and I kind of expected Sabor Tico to be a bit touristy given how many reviews it had on TripAdvisor.  But while Sabor Tico has a full English menu and probably serves a lot of tourists, the food was legit.  Everything we ordered really hit the spot.  The service was friendly, the portions huge, and the prices very reasonable.

There was also an amazing view of the town from the balcony outside.

Highly recommend Sabor Tico if you're looking for a casual meal in Monteverde!
