South Bay: Orchard City Kitchen

One good thing that came out of this seemingly never-ending pandemic was the chance to reconnect with my childhood best friend, WH.  We'd naturally drifted apart with time, so it was a very welcome surprise when I suddenly received an email from her.  After a few emails back and forth, we decided to meet up at Orchard City Kitchen for brunch:

It was a beautiful summer day, so we took advantage of the plentiful outdoor seating.

At our server's recommendation, we got the Triple B ($9) to start:

Triple B for biscuits, bacon, and honey butter.  The bacon tasted like candy, but the most memorable thing for me on that board was the biscuits.  So freakin' buttery!

For our mains, we got the loco moco brah ($17):

The beef patty was smothered in mushroom gravy and topped with a fried egg.  Everything laid on a bed of furikake rice with kimchi, picked daikon, and mac salad on the side.

We also ordered the ginger chicken salad ($16):

The salad consisted of cabbage, little gem lettuce, snow peas, citrus, and cilantro.  It was dressed with a sesame ginger dressing and decorated with mayo, kabayaki sauce, sesame seeds, and fried wonton skins.

Quite a few things on Orchard City Kitchen's menu had an Asian twist to them, which appealed to me.  But while the actual dishes certainly looked pretty and tasted fine, they left me a tad underwhelmed.  Nothing was special enough to make me want to return.

In fact, WH and I left most of the food untouched.  Maybe we were too focused on catching up on all the life events we missed in each other's lives, but I've never let good conversation distract me from good food before...
