Philippines: Naty & Henry Eatery

With only one full day in Bohol, we wanted to squeeze in as much as we could.  Instead of trying to figure it out on our own, we shopped around until we found a tour operator with the best deal.  We managed to squeeze three tours into one day.  The plan was to start early in the morning with the island hopping tour, followed by a visit to the Chocolate Hills and the tarsier sanctuary in the afternoon, and ending the night with a firefly boat ride.

Once our tour itinerary was finalized, we asked the tour guides where locals liked to eat in the area.  They directed us to Naty & Henry Eatery:

There was no menu at Naty's.  Instead, the ladies behind the counter lifted pot lids for us as we examined and chose which dishes we wanted:

In the interest of full disclosure, I was in charge of finding a table, so I have no idea what each dish was or how much they cost.  Actually, I'm not sure any of us really knew what we were eating.  All we knew was that everything was delicious and paired so well with rice:

Now comes a series of photos of dishes I have no name nor accurate description for.

Starting with this clear pork broth:

Some kind of pork:

This lovely eggplant dish:

Sauteed ong choy:

This deliciously fatty piece of pork:

Apparently one order of shrimp comes with three:

I think this is chicken?:

Geez, I suck at this food blogging thing.  Sorry, guys.

Last, but not least, this thick jackfruit stew:

We loved Naty's so much that we went back the next night.  We only had about half an hour to eat between our afternoon tour and evening tour, so we scarfed everything down as if we were starving and hadn't had food in days.

Once again, I was on table duty.  As I gathered the utensils and water glasses, T and CV selected an array of dishes.  Such as this fish head:

And heaven knows what this is:

There was a clear beef broth this time:

And some kind of pork stew:

The seaweed salad was crunchy and refreshing:

We're kind of obsessed with ong choy, so of course there was more of that:

Help...what the heck is this?:

And finally, an eggplant dish:

I apologize for this entirely unhelpful post.  But trust me when I say you should skip the tourist traps and dine at Naty's if you're ever at Alona Beach.  The food is homey and delicious and so, so cheap.  Don't try to figure out what each dish is, just point at whatever looks interesting and you won't regret it!
