Philippines: Little Corner Restaurant
What cinched our decision was Little Corner's array of fish:
It was also CL's birthday and she wanted to make her whole fish dreams come true.
First though, came the pork guisado (P 200 / $3.97):
And the chicken adobo (P 200):
We asked for the fish we chose to come simply steamed:
I forgot how much it cost, but I do remember the pleasure on CL's face as she methodically picked the flesh off the bones. Even when the rest of us were done, she continued to find meat to nibble on. There is no bigger fish fan than my dear CL.
Halfway through our meal, we decided to go ham and add on an order of calamari in garlic sauce:
It was certainly not what we expected. We had pictured some kind of garlic soy concoction and were taken aback by this cream sauce. Not that we were complaining. We would never turn down a garlic cream sauce. Especially on fresh calamari.
Everything was on the slightly salty side, but luckily the mains came with a side of rice:
Of everything we ordered, the standout dish was unsurprisingly the fish. Little Corner's menu is a mix of Filipino and Western options. As with just about every restaurant in Panagsama Beach, it's best to focus on the fresh offerings of the day and build a meal from there.
Service was very, very slow, but island time moves differently and it wasn't like we were in a rush to get anywhere. It was nice to sit and chat and listen to the waves...and watch CL pick apart that fish.
We didn't have a birthday cake for CL, but we did have a giant section of fresh jackfruit back at our bungalow. And honestly, that's better in my opinion. Don't you think?
