Philippines: The Buzzz Cafe
It took two rough boat rides for us to get to Bohol. By the time we finally got to Bohol and checked into our Airbnb, we were ready for a chance to stretch our legs. But first we had to pile on top of each other onto a tricycle (literally one of us had to sit on another's lap) to get to Alona Beach.
Once there, we strolled for a bit until we came across The Bohol Bee Farm's Buzzz Cafe:
The downstairs consisted of a little shop that sold all sort of products, mostly related to honey. The restaurant, however, was upstairs:
Since it was kind of an odd hour, we weren't looking for a meal. Instead, we just wanted something sweet and refreshing. The Buzzz Cafe offered a wide variety of interesting sounding juices and shakes. Completely unintentionally, we somehow managed to order a complete traffic light of beverages. We got the watermelon ginger juice (P 100 / $1.97), the peanut butter mango smoothie (P 120 / $2.36), and the lemongrass juice (P 90 / $1.77):
My favorite of the bunch was the watermelon ginger. The peanut butter mango was a tad too sweet and weird for me...for all of us, really. The lemongrass juice was also a bit on the strange side.
Abby was determined to try halo halo (P 190 / $3.74) again:
Less crunchy sugar texture than the one we had in Moalboal and thus much more appetizing. The ube and the pandan ice cream were the best part.
Because you can never have enough ice cream, we tacked on a double scoop in a cone (P 160 / $3.15):
We got guava and coconut for our flavors. Both were smooth and delicious, but the most interesting part was the cassava cone. The texture was crisp and the flavor vaguely healthy-like. I'm not sure how else to describe it.
Because it was an off hour and the place was virtually empty, we had a great time just sitting and chatting. We had even more fun checking out the store on the first floor and hunting out all the free samples.
The ice cream was definitely the highlight, so if that's all you're looking for, you can just order at the counter from outside the shop. There's also another Bohol Bee Farm ice cream stand further down the street:
Since it was close to where we were waiting for our tour guide the next night, we each grabbed a cone (P 70 / $1.38 for one scoop). I had to order durian because hell yea:
