Pleasanton: Meadowlark Dairy
We were there around 10am, which is apparently the best time to go because there were no lines despite it being a Saturday:
At Meadowlark, you have the choice of ordering through the drive-through or standing in line on foot. According to Abby, the drive-through line can get so long that it clogs up the main road. The pedestrian line can stretch down the block as well.
Well, there was none of that the morning we went. A friendly teenager came out and took our order. Before we could blink, we were walking away, soft serve in hand.
Meadowlark always has vanilla and chocolate available, but they also offer seasonal flavors as well. Which flavors can be swirled also changes, so don't be afraid to ask. Even if they can't be swirled, you can get your desired flavors alternately stacked.
A seasonal flavor offered the day we went was pineapple. I got it swirled with vanilla:
The price differences between the sizes are so small that you should really always order a large ($3 for a small, $3.25 for a medium, and $3.50 for a large). Your options are cake cone or cup or both. I recommend asking for both to get the best of both worlds.
Meadowlark also offers slushies ($2). You have a choice between root beer and berry. You can make it a diablo by adding ice cream to it ($4), which is what UK did:
He got the root beer slushie with vanilla soft serve.
Since that fateful first trip, I've somehow managed to find my way back to Meadowlark a few more times. So far, I've tried their vanilla, pineapple, orange, chocolate, and strawberry. The vanilla and chocolate are especially creamy and decadent, while the fruit flavors are a bit more tangy. It really depends on what you're in the mood for.
What more can I say? I'm a fan. Where can you find ice cream this cheap and this delicious anymore?
