Korea: Sulbing
A dessert chain in Korea, Sulbing was super modern and welcoming:
Even better, it had air conditioning. Thank goodness. Now, air conditioning might not be something you would typically be concerned about when having patbingsoo (shaved ice), but it was so hot outside that we needed it to recover.
The bingsoo also helped. We got the red bean and injeolmi (roasted soy bean powder) snowflake shaved ice (₩9900 / $8.15):
As well as the over the top strawberry macaron snowflake (₩13500 / $11.11):
A bit too over the top for me. This is definitely a matter of personal preference. I'm not huge of overly sweet things (like macarons), so I much preferred the nutty and subtly sweet injeolmi bingsoo with its little mochi bites. What I liked about Sulbing's snowflake bingsoo is that the ice is made of milk and not water. It just makes for a creamier texture, which I enjoy vastly more than crunching ice chips.
If you're looking for a sweet break, Sulbing is a great option. Besides bingsoo, they also have an assortment of beverages, toasts, and other goodies. Everything is gorgeously presented and designed to be shown off on your Instagram feed.
It might not be super cheap, but we all deserve to treat ourselves once in a while. Especially when you're on vacation.
