Japan: Qu'il Fait Bon

What's great about staying near the Tokyo Sky Tree is that you can buy all your souvenirs in one place.  Especially food souvenirs.  All the major brands like Tokyo Banana, Cheese Garden, and Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory are there.  Even better, most of places will give samples as you walk by.  You better believe we got to know the layout of the food and sweets section very, very well.

On top of the souvenir shops, Sky Tree also boasts of many restaurants and cafes.  On our way to the food and sweet section on the second floor, we kept walking by this one beautiful bakery:

The allure was too much to resist and we finally went into Qu'il Fait Bon to peruse their fruit tart selection up close:

Japan is known to take their fruit very seriously.  Some fruits can sell for upwards of over $100.  CK was a fruit bat in another life and is typically very willing to shell out cash for quality food, but even she couldn't bring herself to put the money down.

We figured the most affordable way to try a decent muscat grape would be to get a slice of the muscat tart (¥820 / $7.62):

Not only was it gorgeous to look at, it tasted gorgeous as well.  The tart was simple and allowed the sweetness of the grape to come through.

Because we couldn't just get one slice and Jiejie is a massive strawberry fan, we also ordered a slice of the strawberry tart (¥815 / $7.57):

Exquisite.  Just exquisite.

If you love fruit and don't mind paying a bit more than usual, Qu'il Fait Bon is the place to go.  Every single tart is meticulously decorated and designed to let the fruit be the star of the show.  Not rich at all, the tarts taste light and fresh and make you feel like you're at a fancy tea party, even if you're actually in pajamas in the living room of your Airbnb.

It might not be the cheapest fruit tart in town (a whole tart can set you back over $75!), but if you're curious about expensive Japanese fruits, it's certainly cheaper to buy a tart slice than to buy the actual fruit at a department store.
