South Bay: California Ranch Market

We usually hit up Ranch 99 for our grocery needs, but once in a while we go to California Ranch Market for a change of pace. California Ranch is more Vietnamese-oriented, so some products are cheaper there than at Ranch 99:



What I care about though, is the bakery section. California Ranch Market has, in my opinion, the best pineapple buns (bo luo bao):

The buns are always fresh and hot from the oven because they sell so quickly. The top of the bun is sweet and crunchy, without being too flaky and the bun itself is so soft. I like the plain pineapple buns, but other people like the buy the custard filled ones.

My second favorite would be the cocktail buns:

Again, the bun is super soft and the coconut filling is perfect.

What I like the most, however, is the price. $1.75 for 3 buns! Just remember, cash only at the bakery.
