New Orleans: Parasol's
One of the best decisions we made in New Orleans was to take up the offer of a tour guide outside of Layfayette Cemetery No. 1 instead of walking around on our own. With no one else around, we essentially got a private tour for a fraction of the usual price. Our guide was super knowledgeable and we learned so much from her about Louisiana history and burial practices.
After our very informative tour, we wandered around the Garden District, taking in all the magnificent houses. And then we "wandered" our way to lunch at Parasol's:
The front of Parasol's is a bar, but if you head to the back there is a small set of stairs that takes you into the restaurant section:
While there is an extensive po boy selection to choose from, Parasol's is known for their roast beef po boy ($10.50 for a large):
It may be a wet mess, but it's a delicious wet mess. A large was actually enough for the three of us to share.
Along with an order of onion rings ($4.75 for a large), of course:
100% would go back to Parasol's. There are so many other po boys that I just know are amazing and waiting for me. Not to mention something called an Irish sundae, which is potato salad covered in roast beef drippings. Yaaaasssss, please.
Don't expect a fine dining experience. Just go, eat your po boy, and you won't regret it. Be prepared to use lots of napkins!
