New Orleans: Elizabeth's

Queen G recommended Elizabeth's for brunch and when we saw that it was also one of our Airbnb hostess's recommendations, we knew we had to make it happen:

We got there right when it opened at 8:00am, which meant zero wait:

We started off with the fried boudin balls with creole mustard sauce ($7):

Also off the appetizer menu was the praline bacon ($7):

Between the two, I would go for the boudin balls.  The bacon was just alright in my opinion.  I just wish it had been slightly crispier.

The duck waffle ($15) sounded super interesting on paper:

Sweet potato and duck hash sitting on a cornbread waffle and topped with pepper jelly...sounds amazing, no?  Unfortunately, the flavor was missing something.  The sweetness of the sweet potato and the waffle called for just a tad more savory to balance everything out.

We added on a side of cheese grits ($4):

I still don't understand grits.  It's good, but it's not something I would ever be drawn to.

The big hit that morning turned out to be the eggs florentine ($19):

Just look at how many fried oysters there are on that plate!  The spinach and hollandaise sauce was a bit overpowering in an herb-y way that we didn't super enjoy, but again.  The oysters.  Lightly breaded and perfectly fried, we just picked out the oysters and avoided the sauce-drenched potatoes.

There was so much food that the three of us ended up focusing on finishing the important (read: expensive) parts before rolling ourselves out the door.

While we generally liked what we had at Elizabeth's, we weren't exactly blown away.  Except for the oysters.  The oysters were BOMB.  If you're ever at Elizabeth's, look for anything on the menu that includes fried oysters.

You won't regret it.
