New Orleans: Cafe Beignet

Before getting to New Orleans, we compiled a list of things we wanted to eat.  What we failed to do, however, was figure out what to do in-between meals.  So after finishing our po' boy from Verti Marte, we were at a loss as to what to do next.

With temperatures in the 90s and humidity through the roof, we escaped the heat of the outdoors and ducked into a random cafe to regroup and strategize:

We couldn't justify occupying a table without ordering something, which is how our first beignet experience in NOLA ended up being at Cafe Beignet rather than at the iconic Cafe du Monde:

At three per order, the beignets cost $3.99.  They came piping hot and dusted with powdered sugar.  It was delicious, as dough and sugar always is, but I couldn't see myself eating more than one.  My sister, on the other hand, probably could've devoured the entire order on her own.

To buy even more time at our table, I added on an iced lemonade ($3.99) and sipped it very, veeeeery slowly:

We used our time at Cafe Beignet to research ghost tours and luckily were able to book one for the same evening.  With the beignets gone and the cups emptied, we headed back onto the streets.  We spent the couple of hours before our ghost tour ducking into souvenir shop after souvenir shop all while avoiding the mess that is Bourbon Street.

All in all, a very productive afternoon.
