SF Peninsula: Antoine's Cookie Shop

Even though we were stuffed from dim sum, that didn't stop T from wanting dessert.  We took a little walk and found ourselves at Antoine's Cookie Shop:

I'm not usually drawn to cookies (unless they're from Levain), but T was super interested:

Antoine's cookies usually go for $1.95 each or $11 for a half dozen.  While browsing through the flavor option, a sign caught our eye:

Who cares if they're yesterday's cookies?  If it's 5 for $5, why would we get anything else?  The discounted cookies came pre-packaged in boxes that you had to take as is.  We managed to find two boxes that included most of the flavors we wanted to try.

The first one included three chocolate chip cookies and two cookies 'n cream:

The second had two oatmeal chip with pecans, one peanut buttercup, one honeycomb, and one toffee:

They were all quite sweet, but that's to be expected.  Even with my old Asian lady taste buds, I quite liked the toffee and the peanut buttercup ones.

If I had to choose between a crumbly cookie and a chewy one, chewy would win every time.  Antoine's cookies were soft and chewy and so delicious that we made a point to stop by the shop every time we visited downtown San Mateo after that.  Except the last time we went, they no longer had the $5 box.  So we did an about-face and saw ourselves out.

Maybe the yesterday's cookies box was only temporarily available during the pandemic.  If so, I guess we'll be saving Antoine's Cookie Shop for when we really want to treat ourselves.
