Joshua Tree: Country Kitchen
We'd packed a lot of cup noodles and snacks on our trip and so in the interest of finishing as much as we could, we didn't eat out all that much while we were in Joshua Tree. We did, however, treat ourselves to brunch at Country Kitchen after hiking Ryan Mountain:
When we saw the sign for "big ass pancakes", we knew we were at the right place.
Country Kitchen had a large outdoor dining area:
We placed our order at the window and then sat down to wait. It wasn't long before our number was called and we were able to fetch our food.
After much deliberation, I ordered the corned beef hash ($12.95):
It included two eggs (which I asked for over easy), a choice of potatoes (I went with hash browns), and a choice of toast (of course I got sourdough).
All CK wanted were the biscuits n' gravy ($5.95):
UK was super excited about his country fried steak n' eggs ($12.95):
It came smothered in gravy and served with two eggs, a choice of potatoes, and toast.
Whereas Abby was pleased with her deuces wild ($12.22), which included a choice of a sweet, a choice of a meat, and two eggs. She went with pancakes and sausage patties:
Nothing was particularly intricate or innovative, however, every single dish was crazy delicious. Maybe we were starving, but we couldn't stop exclaiming over how tasty everything was. Even the toast were heavenly with just the right amount of buttery goodness. The portions were hearty and the prices super reasonable as well.
Interestingly enough, Country Kitchen has a small section on their menu dedicated to Cambodian dishes. Apparently the previous owner, Mama Uy, was Cambodian and this is an homage to her.
We left Country Kitchen extremely satisfied and kind of sad that we didn't discover it until our last day in Joshua Tree. If I ever head down to Joshua Tree National Park again, I'm definitely carving out time to eat at Country Kitchen.
Maybe even every day if possible.
