Philippines: Lola's Kitchen & Restaurant

It being Good Friday, our biggest concern was finding a way from Cebu to Moalboal and not so much what to eat.  (Though Jollibee came through for us in a big way by being open.  Thank goodness for Jollibee!)  Our original plan was to take a bus, but since they weren't running, we had to keep our fingers crossed for a GrabCar.

Given that it would be a 2.5 hour drive, we weren't surprised that drivers weren't leaping at the chance to take us on.  For a while there, we weren't sure we were going to make it.  But thank the Lord, we ultimately found a driver willing to take a bunch of excited girls down to Moalboal.

The first thing we did after checking into our beachfront bungalow was find a guide to take us snorkeling in the sardine run.  By the time it even occurred to us to think about food, we were tired and sore and more ready to sleep than to eat.

But we rallied and dragged our aching bodies to Lola's Kitchen:

Located on a dark street a bit off from the hustle and bustle, Lola's is a homey place with food cooked fresh when you order.

We decided on shrimp and we were advised to get them with garlic and lemon (P 250 / $4.84):

We also ordered the chicken adobo (P 230 / $4.46):

Both dishes were salty and so good with rice.  They came with regular rice, but how boring, right?  So we added on garlic rice (P 50 / $0.97):

Moalboal can be pretty touristy, particularly around Panagsama Beach, but there are definitely opportunities to get away from it all.  Lola's Kitchen has a quieter local feel and offers a nice home-cooked meal at ridiculously cheap prices.
