New Orleans: Parkway Bakery & Tavern

We couldn't leave New Orleans without squeezing in just one more po boy.  So the morning of our flight, we got to Parkway Bakery & Tavern before they even opened at 11:00:

We weren't the only ones.  By the time they unlocked the doors, there was already a decent line.  We all filed in and headed to the back where the window to order was:

It wasn't long before our order was called and we were chowing down on some pretty awesome sweet potato fries ($6.05):

For our po boys, we went with a small (5 inch) fried shrimp ($8.95):

And a small fried catfish ($8.65):

We thought that we'd missed out on the fried oyster po boy because we were there on Thursday and it's only served on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Luckily CK asked about it just for funsies and it miraculously turned out that they still had some oysters left.  Of course we had to take advantage and get a large (10 inch) one ($13.20):

Each po boy came dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mayo.

All the po boys were legitimately delicious in their own right.  The bread was soft and while the dressing was simple, anything in addition would have detracted from the awesomeness of the seafood.  All the seafood was lightly breaded, perfectly seasoned, and freshly fried.  They might not be the cheapest sandwiches around, but they're worth it.  If I had to rank them though, I would say the oyster came in first, the shrimp second, and the catfish a close third.

Definitely make time for Parkway if you're in New Orleans.  Try to get there on a Monday or a Wednesday, but if you really can't make it, it doesn't hurt to ask about the oysters anyway.

You never know if you'll get lucky!
